The new year begins on a very happy note: my sweetheart is still with me. I so appreciate all the kind notes and prayers from all of you. <!-- AddThis Button BEGIN -->

The doctors hesitantly gave Hugh until early December, so we are celebrating each wonderful bonus day. He has no pain and hasn't been nauseous. I'm so grateful for our Canadian health care system and the daily homecare workers that come in to help. Because he is palliative, all medication and treatment are free. Hugh is feeling pretty good and gaining weight from the goodies from our friends. His newly developed sweet tooth got a good workout over Christmas.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I've painted very little since the diagnosis in April, but I did enter one or two paintings in a couple local shows. An artist friend has helped with the delivery of the paintings. </div>

<br /></div>
<div>
In 2014, I will enjoy the time I have left with my sweet spouse and now and then maybe sit down and put paint to canvas. Have a great year my friends.</div>

I was able to push myself to get back at it on the first of September. This painting of a street in Tuscany has been waiting impatiently for my return. I may consider it finished now, but it will have to sit in the livingroom for a few days for me to check it out. It's a little darker than the photo suggests.<script src="http://s7.addthis.com/js/250/addthis_widget.js#username=xa-4b395579578fe122" type="text/javascript"></script><!-- AddThis Button END --><br />

My husband and I are travelling the journey called: Cancer. Radiation treatments are Monday through Friday until the end of this week when they stop for a month. Then things are reassessed, and we start again. In the beginning they told us that we might have a year or two. After the second MRI we were told they would try to give Hugh six months but that the cancer is very aggressive and...<!-- AddThis Button BEGIN -->

There are many, many people praying for us and we are at peace. Hugh is not suffering in any way. We have the certain knowledge that God is with us at this time and if it's time for Hugh to go home, Jesus will come and take him in His arms. </div>

Thanks you for your concern and prayers. I will be back blogging when this trial is over.</div>

By now some of you may have notice I haven't been blogging for some time. Sorry about that. I still go and check on you once in a while but rarely take the time to comment. Life took an unexpected turn a few weeks back when the love of my life, my husband, Hugh was diagnosed with brain cancer, stage 3. My life since then has been very busy with tests and now starting treatments. When things settle down to a predictable schedule I will again start painting and posting. Until then, know that I am checking in with you and I wish you all well with your painting and projects.<!-- AddThis Button BEGIN -->

I love watching my seedlings grow and I even enjoy the spring cleaning projects that seem to bring the sunshine into the condo. It's also time to get reinvigorated about painting. (reinvigorated ... is that a real word?) <!-- AddThis Button BEGIN -->

This is the year I decided I would focus on larger paintings. Although I really enjoy seeing the finished paintings on display, I find I'm not painting as often. I wouldn't call it boredom but I do have the need for variety. Reverting to smaller paintings was not an option I would allow myself....so...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The solution for my desire for change and growth came via Informed Collectors artist choice for today: <a href="http://maraschasteen.blogspot.ca/">Mara Schasteen</a>. While browsing her web page I came across her colour charts. Hmmmm... I started making charts a couple years ago but I never got past mixing individual colours with white. These simple charts have been an amazing help to me over the years and I have taught all my students to make them. Mara has taken the next step and made charts that mix all her primary colours with each other. That's what I need. So today I sorted out the colours I would use and gessoed some plastic canvas sheets. Mara's charts are neat and tidy. I'm more of a slap bang type person so mine aren't. Hopefully in a few days I can show you some of my completed charts... this is a big project that will probably take me most of the spring. I'll find something else to do for the summer I'm sure. </div>

My March painting, of a street in Tuscany, was calling to me as soon as I returned and I'm anxious to get back to it but first I want to spend some time visiting my neighbours and fellow bloggers...it is good to be home.</div>

I'm looking forward to the month of February more than usual this year. It's the month I like the least. The weather is unpredictable with snow storms, ice storms and lots of gloom. This year my attitude has changed. This year, February is going to be a month when I paint a warm picture of a street in Tuscany, I enter several art competitions and best of all; I travel to Mexico to hug my now four year old grandson. I am so excited it's February.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
On a previous post I asked for some suggestions for a name for my last painting. I decided to go with Trudy's suggestion and call it "Winter's Whisper". I changed it slightly and I really appreciate all the great ideas I was given.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Now that I'm working on only bigger works, its hard to find pictures of finished paintings to post. Today, I'll post the painting I'm almost finished: It's a cool blue/green picture of Lake Okanagan, taken from the popular Knox Mountain lookout. It still needs a few days work.</div>

I hope you're enjoying this season that's perfect for drinking hot chocolate and wearing cozy sweaters.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm working on my next biggish painting but I've hit the ugly stage...it is so hard to keep going at this middle point. The colours seem wrong and the composition seems to have altered and not for the best....BUT...I know that this too will pass. I almost always struggle at the mid point in a painting. Part of the issue is my own doing. I enjoy the freedom of the beginning stage where I can slap on the paint and not worry too much about the details. It's a fun and very freeing experience that comes after working long hours doing the detail on my last painting. It's so much fun that I get a little careless and then when I start pulling the scene together with the bigger objects and coordinating colours...well it can really get ugly.<!-- AddThis Button BEGIN -->

This is where a pep talk comes in handy. I have to tell myself to work fast and get it fixed...because it will improve...it <b><u>will</u></b> become something I can be proud of. The self talk works somewhat but I usually end up taking a few days break and often start my next painting. So that's what I'm doing today. First the gesso and then the base colour... That's it. I won't allow myself to do the fun blocking in until I get the present painting to the stage where I can enjoy looking at it. We artist types have to work hard at the self discipline stuff. I can do this... </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
How about you? Do you have to put some extra effort into your project? How about those New Years resolutions...don't give up...you can do it.<br />
<br />
ps. For some reason My Friend follower app at the side has malfunctioned and I have lost about three hundred of my followers. If you are one of them, please sign in again. Thanks.</div>

<br /></div>
<div>
While this new January 2013 painting dries enough to be varnished, I have to come up with a name for it. In the meantime it hangs on my wall where I can enjoy it. My large landscapes never seem to stay around long so I appreciate my time with each one. I paint what I enjoy and I sell them so that others can as well. It always thrills me to know that my paintings, that took so much of my time to create, are now hanging in homes all over the world. What an honour these collectors bestow on me by displaying my art. Thank you.<!-- AddThis Button BEGIN -->

<br /></div>
<div>
2012 was a wonderful year for me... </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My son from Ontario, came to visit, and helped celebrate my 60th birthday... I was able to go camping a lot and I finally mastered the very enjoyable activity of painting while sitting beside the lake, in a lawn chair. I was able to paint more due to improved health and I doubled my income from sold paintings...that's three years in a row......wow, thank you Lord.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2013 is here and I'm very excited...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am planning a trip to visit my four year old grandson in Mexico city. My husband and I going to celebrate our 25th anniversary and I'm going to paint the bigger paintings I've always wanted to, but always shied away from. I will be brave.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
To all my faithful blogging buddies, collectors, friends and family...may your year be filled with much joy, love, and good health.</div>

I was called in at the last minute to volunteer at the Lake country Art Gallery. The "Under 100" show was on display and I got to look carefully at all the paintings. What fun that was. So many beautiful works by lots of new friends I have made in the last few years. It is really exciting to have so many artists as close friends. I am blessed.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
One special moment came when a visitor to the gallery asked to buy a piece of art. It was one of my larger paintings, that we were allowed to enter into the show. I gave her a hug and her friend took pictures of both of us with her new painting, "Solitude".</div>

I have thirteen paintings in the show so I'm quite excited. There's a really great coffee shop attached to the gallery so I'm hoping lots of people invite me to go with them when they go to see the show. I've had two invitations so far :) .<!-- AddThis Button BEGIN -->

Over the last year and a half you may remember me mentioning my black-eyed susan's painting that was giving me trouble. This was an attempt to use my imagination to help create a painting. Not an easy thing for me to do, thus the lonnnnng wait. Today, I officially declare it finished. The photo isn't the best but it gives you a pretty good idea of what the 30"x 24" painting looks like.</div>

The paper work for the labels has been sent in and I can now take a long slow breath and relax. I sent in my paper work for the two larger pieces that we are allowed but they too are juried so I don't know if they will be in the show or not. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm only adding a photo of the hummingbird painting since it was the only incomplete one from the last post that I finished. I decided to go with that and move on to a new project I'm excited about starting. More on details at a later date. Have a great day.</div>

I even have more time that I wasn't expecting. The "Under 100" show doesn't start until the 17th of November. By then who knows how many paintings I can have ready. As I mentioned..I finished ten and have three more started. The humming bird and the one above it and to the right of it are just getting started. All these painting have to be less than 100" and $100, plus they must never have been shown in the gallery before. Fortunately I found two small square paintings that I can add and I've finished painting five others and it's only the middle of the month. Thanks to all my internet friends who helped me with encouraging words. Two weeks to go.... I think I can ....I think I can....<div>

Below is a sampling of what I've been working on for the Christmas Show at our local gallery. <div>

I had some guests in to look at my "City Lights" painting this week. I'm so honoured by their kind comments. We have it displayed in our living room right now, so if anyone would like to come for coffee and see it live... you are very welcome.</div>

Hi folks, I'm quite pleased I've been juried into the "Under 100" show at the Lake Country Art Gallery. Even though it's called Under 100, this year they are allowing some under 300 inches and some under 200 inches. That seems easy enough but we then commit to 10 to 20 pieces under 100 inches. Yikes... that's a lot for me. I guess I have to speed up. Again I'm out of my comfort zone...but hey, I love the challenge.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Today I base coated several canvas's and added a few details to this my third painting under 100". I have two others that have been painted since last year so here goes... two down and minimum of eight to go.</div>

I'm normally a very punctual person so it was with great distress that I entered a painting late for the monthly painting contest on: <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Artist-reference-photos/196240920396276?ref=ts">Artist-reference-photos</a>. Each month we pick our favourite picture for the photo contest and the next month we can try to paint the winners photograph. <!-- AddThis Button BEGIN -->

It's huge and the people come to look at art...only art. There are dancers and musicians performing in every room and building. Flags fly over the sidewalks to show you where the next building with art is located. The amount of work put into planning and putting on this magnificent event is fantastic and I am so grateful. What a wonderful group of volunteers.<div>

<div>
7000 to 8000 people go through and look at my paintings! My head is swollen right out of shape by all the kind comments. This year was unusually exciting with people making a special effort to come and see my painting "City Lights". <!-- AddThis Button BEGIN -->

Today's blog post will show how a group of wonderful friends got together and took my eight foot painting, called "City Lights", to a photographer friend's place to be photographed and then returned the same night. We happen to live in an upstairs condo and own a small car so when a friend offered his pickup we thanked him and prayed for good weather. Other folks found out what we were doing and showed up to help, wow, I feel so blessed. They put the painting into the back of the pickup and while three fellows stood beside it to keep it from falling, the owner of the truck drove us slowly to the photographer. What an adventure!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The photographer, who is VERY famous for his quality work, invited me into his home that was in the process of being built. He and his gracious wife were exhausted and hadn't even taken time to eat yet and it was already 9 pm. They insisted they still wanted to do this for me and welcomed all of us into their fantastic new home. </div>

I'm sitting here with my laptop balanced on my knees. I can't bring it forward in case it touches my tummy and hurts where the surgeon just repaired two hernias. I'm so glad to have that over with. It's been an extremely busy week. First I had to call the ambulance for my hubby because I couldn't get him off the bathroom floor. After ten hours in emergency they told us they thought he had had a baby stroke and told him he couldn't drive. Two days later we had to bug friends to drive us the 35 minutes to the hospital for my surgery. It went well but when our friends returned to give us a ride home, I suddenly had a severe attack of pain on my left side away from where my incision was...many hours later they gave me a couple shots and sent me home non the wiser. <!-- AddThis Button BEGIN -->

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Now the pain is receding nicely, my sweetheart has had more tests and they decided he only has an inner ear problem...yippeeee. God is good. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So many folks have helped us out in the last week but I want to spend more time giving you the details later. Our neighbourhood is awesome. </div>
